    hi,

I was reading a news piece online about a stab victim, the guy effectively died and the paramedic opened his chest and started massaging his heart and brought him back to life. Would this be standard training they all receive?

would irish EMTs have this training or be allowed carry out this procedure?

    No paramedic would do this.

i actually saw a similar thing like this years ago on one of those uk reality shows things.
but it was performed by the crew of an air ambulance (not sure if they are emts, doctors or surgeons on those helis)
but your man got some award for it cause he saved the patient by massaging his heart.

If it was HEMS then they carry docs on board.

Internal heart massage would only be the last resort in the field and then only for a surgical Doc.
Risk of infection too great and chances of success too low. Also getting through to the heart is too time consuming in the field unless the way in has been cleared by the trauma involved.

Also getting the technique right when everything is so slippy a bit awkward.

    IMHO

    (PS: Not a paramedic)

And had to do the same years ago to my son's goldfish. Worked a treat but didn't have too much of a long term survival rate. (only so much re inflation of the capillaries possible)
But worked, I was skeptical about trying.

Did it say they even tried the de-fib?

However in this scenario if the guy is dead. Its not like they can kill him twice.
