Advice on backup of laptop

Due to a fault with my laptop it needs to be sent back to the manufacturer. However unless I backup the entire contents of it before I send it off I will probably lose a lot of data.

Has anyone got any tips for an easy way to back up all files, emails (ms outlook 2007) software etc of my laptop?

    cheers

Something like Acronis would do the job.

Buy a decent sized external hard drive and copy everything onto it before you have to send it away.

Acronis looks like it might be the solution alright, although it costs just under €60. Are there any cheaper (preferably free!) solutions out there?

I have ordered a Samsung 1.5TB external hard drive off Amazon, so I'm sorted for space.

What I need is a smooth transition of files, applications, music (iTunes) etc from my current (damaged) laptop to the new (repaired) one.

Not sure of any free options but the lads in here use it and Storagecraft (its more expensive) on Clients systems without a hitch and swear by it.

At the end of the day it depends on how important the data is to you. Check what comes with the Samsung drive, it may have software that does this bundled with it as well.
