    Hi, i have read through the stickies and i couldnt find an answer to this.

    Hopefully someone can help me out with this.

    If i pay €519 for a speakeasy iphone, will it eventually become unblocked to use on a different provider? Or is it stuck on O2 for ever?

    As of now I think it's stuck unless you jailbreak it.

    But O2 in the UK are unlocking out-of-contract iPhones since they've lost exclusive rights to them. So the question is will O2 Ireland do the same once Vodafone have the right to start selling the iPhone? I'm hoping they will!

    So it is technically impossible to buy an iphone and use it on the Meteor network without fear of the phone being bricked at some stage.

    no it's not.

    you have two options.

    1. try and convince who provided iPhone to you to get apple to "factory unlock" it. that may not be the right term but it's approved by apple, and any sim can and will work without jailbreak/unlock.

    2. buy a factory unlocked iPhone in a country that is legally required to sell them.
    >>> Australia
    >>> Italy
    >>> Belgium

    are three off the top of my head.
