Getting your cholesterol checked

Is there a way to check your cholesterol without going to your GP? Last time I got it checked it was high so changed my eating habits and bit more getting up of my backside so just wondering can I see if it is working. Hoping can pick up something in the pharmacy that would give me an idea without spending €50 on a GP.…

I know some pharmacies do cholesterol testing - many do it as part of a general heart check up where they measure BP etc. too. It's not as accurate as getting it done in the doctors - the pharmacies only use a small pinprick of blood from your finger but it could give you a general idea.
