Occupation Commercial Air Diver/Saturation Diver/Diver Medic/Assistant Life Support Technician

Qualifications: ADAS Part 4,IMCA Dive Medic Tech,IMCA Assitant Life Support Tech,Advanced Rigger

    Previous Jobs: Lifeguard,Swimming Coach,Bricklayer,Rigger

    Age: 28

Day in The Life: I will be stationed on a heavy construction barge or Dive Support Vessel in West Africa,Middle East,Inida or South East Asia.I spend 60 days at sea,i work 12 hours a day 7 days a week.I am either diving straight off the barge/ship and returning a few hours later or living in Saturation Chamber - a pressureised chamber to equal the same water depth, this will be my home for 28 days and we dive daily via a diving bell that takes us to the bottom, this type of diving technique is used for anything over 50m in depth, anything shallower air diving is used.
The work i do is mainly construction based, divers are glorified underwater labourers, there is alot of rigging/lifting to be done and pipe fitting.

Extra Comments: I have junior cert level education, the money is great, but every penny is earned, this type of job suits people who are adrenalin junkies and want to lead a very abnormal lifestyle, the offshore industry has been booming the last 5 years since i got into it,but things are drying up a bit now, hopefully it will pick up again next year.
If anyone has any questions regarding my career feel free to ask here or send me a pm

    Hi,
i am looking into doing the IMCA Assistant Life Support Technician course. Where did you do your course? Any in Ireland? Looking at doing it in scotland.
I am a recently qualified diver but cannot dive for a few months due to health reasons. This course sounds interesting and keep me in the "dive workplace".
Once you finish the course states you need to do 60hrs work before exams.
Did you have to find your own place to complete the 60hrs training or did training facilty help you? Did you get paid for this? What is the avg pay for this job? Whats the pay scale like, much chances of making alot of money?

In a few months will hopefully be able to dive again, would love to train to be a commercial diver. Is it hard to get started in the industry? From the courses i've checked out it is expensive and wouldnt want to be sitting round for months waiting for a job ya know.

    Rgds
    Gav
