Hi just wondering if anybody knows anything about the costume design and make up course they do at Inchicore college. I am really interested in a course like this, but I had never actually heard of the college before ! I just happened to come across it.

So any info anyone has on the college/course would be great! oh if anyone has maybe done a course like that in another college and would recommend/ not recommend it, that would also be great!

    Thanks:)

Thanks for that! I am really interested in doing this course. Are you learning alot? it seems to be bits of everything do you know if people really get jobs from this course or would you have to specialise in something afterwards? Anything you can tell me would be great! Oh also is everyone like 18? cos I'm a little older !

    Thanks again:)

yeh the course is really varied, we do a lot of different things and projects.
im not sure about getting jobs, iv never done anything like this before so im a complete beginner in this field and i wouldn't be confident after a few months to apply for jobs, but during the summer and next year i definatly would.
a few students who already have a background in hair and makeup have gotten some work already so it really depends on yourself.
you learn the majority of work in the first year, thats why its so intense! and then the second year is working on your dissertation and personal projects.
a lot of students have gone straight into work after the 2 years but now alot are applying to ncad and other colleges to get a degree. its all about experience though if you did the 2 years and had loads of experience in the industry, it would stand to you more than having a degree and never working a day!!
the class ranges from 17 to 40ish (not sure!) and the majority is late 20's early 30's. im 21 and im one of the few young ones!!!
wouldnt worry about age though at all, the class has about 20 students so everyone gets on very well as its so small!
if you want to know anything alse just let me know!! :)

Out of curiosity hanner, how much notice did they give you for your interview? I submitted an application at their open house and they said that the first round of interviews would be held in mid-march and I should be in that pool. I was hoping to have heard by now when exactly my appointment is as I need to get time off from work etc. I figured I'd ask your experience. Did they tell you your interview time weeks in advanced or days?

    Thanks! :)

well i applied the end of august and i had my interview on the 1st of sep. i think i got about a weeks notice for it.
i think this years interviews are being held on a tuesday because my makeup teacher was saying we would miss a class because of them. we're also off for 2 weeks at easter if that helps too, im not sure of the exact dates though.

Thanks for the info. At the open house, they were saying March 14th & 15th. The 14th is a Sunday so perhaps it will be 15th & 16th. I guess I'll just have to wait and see. Thanks!

Hi,i have an interview with inchichore in a couple weeks for the same course and im really really interested jus a bit scared of the interview haha ,I have no previous experience jus want to learn the craft so when it said that while a portfolio is not essential a sketch book and ideas book is mandatory i got a bit nervous.Would you be able to tell me what to expect or maybe what i should prepare as i have no idea i have sketch books but im not entirely sure what their gonna be lookin for, please please any info would be a help.:):)

hey niamh, dont worry about it the interview is grand. they ask you a few questions like have you seen a film lately that had interesting costumes in it? or anything in the theatre? and then describe some costumes. a few girls came straight from school and they had no portfolio, just some artwork from school. you just need to show some idea developement. if you've ever made anything clothing wise definatly include it. i would definatly put some work into it though as the course head said that this is the highest number of applicants they've ever had so competition is stiff.

Hey cheers for the reply,ok so what ive got so far is ive done some make up designs on my friend and i have photos of that im gonna include, sketch book full of costume designs from recent films alice in wonderland etc.Gonna try and make some costume and take some snaps so then.I had an earlier interview but it was really short notice and i had something i couldnt get out of so i had to re-schedule which i know is gonna make it extra hard seen as it is the second round of interviews.Anyways guess i jus gotta impress as much as i can and win em over, thanks again.:)
