I have a schecter hellraiser and a blackstar Ht5. My favourite guitarist is Dimebag from pantera.

Now i have his tone down perfect from an ubermetal, its perfect but I have heard time and time again this business of pushing the valves to get your gain and so I am wondering how dirty a tone am I gonna get out of a HT5 with an overdrive infront of it? Anywhere near as tight as dime's?

What overdrive would you recommend? I also want to take alot of the bass out of the HT5, any suggestions?

I'm guessing this might get you close!

I'd say you'd need an eq pedal to tighten up the sound, scoop the mids as they say!

Then push the gain until you get the sound you need.

I'd really recommend trying a blackstar pedal, can;t remember which one it is, possibly dist-x, but it's their heavier distortion and it has a valve inside, which may be just the thing you need to get that 'pushing the valves' sound. I have the HT-Dual, which sounds fantastic, but may not be quite 'metal' enough for a dimebag sound, so you'd probably want to give the dist-x (I'm almost positive thats it) a try

FWIW I believe Dime used solid state amps.

He did indeed. And I reckon a lot of producing in the studio.

Yeah, I know but Im looking for a tight distortion drenched tone and I am wondering is it possible to get such from a blackstar ht5.
Maybe not dimes exact tone but something similar.

He used Randall solid states but witched over to Krank tube amps when he started playing with Damage plan and towards the end of Pantera.

Well do you want to use the HT5's distortion or another in front of it instead?

Id try putting TS in front of it, helps tighten it up alot. And what Lands leaving said about the Equalizer.

Pretty much spot on, a TS will tighten up any amp. If your on a budget I cant recommend the Digitech Bad Monkey enough, it really holds up well against a TS9 for a third of the price.
