    should it be in your own name or the house owners? was happy just paying it but after a conversation with my girlfriend they changed the bill to her name without her actually asking them to. Just that house lease is only 6 months and were 4 months in so we dont want to be continued to be charged after we leave for any reason. They wont change it back unless the house owner contacs them and trying to get the estate agent to do anything is difficult. Not the biggest problem in the world but just wandering whats the norm.

    It's usual to transfer the acount into the tenant's name for the duration of their stay.
    Otherwise, the landlord would be liable for their electricity usage and could be stuck with a hefty bill.

    When you are moving out, get a meter reading yourself, confirm it with the landlord or their agent (preferably on the day of the final inspection) and call the ESB yourself with the reading to close your account:
