Firstly, I'll start to say that nothing we do in life is a waste; and everything has something that can be learned from it. Secondly, ignore this sense of 'time' you've created as really meaning anything. For example, you implied that a quarter of your life has been wasted. This is the wrong outlook. You could instead just view all of that as a collection of events in your past, but there should be no sense of the time period over which those events occured. Ultimately, what i'm saying is that you miust only look forward.

This leads me to my next suggestion: Don't go back to that job but DO talk to your parents and anyone else about what you are going to do. Dont be afraid to open up and admit being scared. We all get scared; many of us even cry. Seek advice as much as you can.
