Can anyone tell me if there is any legislation in place regarding how many consecutive days you can legally be asked to work without a day off.

All I can find at the moment is that you are entitled to 11 hours rest between working days but that's all.

    Thanks for the link!

Am I right in thinking from this that you are entitled to a day off after working 7 consecutive days?

"A weekly rest period of 24 consecutive hours per seven days, following a daily rest period"

In principle yes, but they can combine 2 weeks with 48 consecutive ours off afterwards.

Yes I've only ever seen the union get involved when someone was rostered to work 12 days in a row then 2 days off. In that case the person was given 7 days then 1 day off then 7 days again.

The thing is its looking like I will be working a total of 10 consecutive days right up to christmas eve. Normally this wouldn't be much of a problem but it leaves me with no time to do any christmas shopping and was hoping to have a day off before christmas to do it.

Come christmas eve I will have worked 17 days with one day off, this obviously coming before the 10 consecutive days.

Yeah, I'll have 11 days done on x-mas eve. If you can, go the person who did the rota and ask if you can have a day off. Be aware the rota was probably done and costed ages ago so just changing one shift is not as easy to do as you'd think.

Yes you are entitled to 1 but if you work in the service industry more than likely you will have all the time off you want (unpaid) in January.
