Social welfare payments: 0

My friend, after working slightly less than 2 years in Ireland, got laid off. He applied for Jobseekers benefit and Supplementary welfare allowance while waiting for social welfare decision. Three months later he started to receive SWA. At the end of the year he found a job - contract for a month.

So he stopped getting SWA and as explained, the decision making process for Jobseekers benefit has been closed after waiting for 11 months to get it.

Does it mean that he is not going to get anything for those first three months before getting the SWA just because he found himself a job? To me it looks like he would come out better not looking for a job, which is not logical...

Is your friend also Czech? If so, he would normally need to have been here for 2 years before receiving any benefits.

However, if a positive decision is made, a claimant is normally entitled to payment for the time awaiting the decision.

No, he is Slovak. But it does not make any difference. And yes, he have been here for more than 2 years.

Yeap. IF the positive decision is made, which it wasn't. To me it looks like they were waiting for him to find a job so they don't have to pay anything.
