I know there is a forum for this but I figured I would get more responses here, so mods feel free to move it if its not suitable.

I have serious difficulty getting up in the mornings.

My alarm goes off at 7 every morning. I should leave the house at 8 to start work an 8.30, but I am always late due to not getting up on time. I should be up by 7.30 at he latest but I never am up at that time. I get up at 7.50/7.55 every morning without fail. Thats 50/55 minutes of pressing snooze. 5 to 10 mins is not enough time to get ready in the mornings.

Although I get e breakfast, its just wolfed down in a hurry without even finishing it. No toast, no tea or coffee, or no juice. Just cereal wolfed down, spoonfuls at a time, running out the door chewing it.

I wish I could get up on time and enjoy my breakfast but I just cannot wake up/get up on time. I feel that I would work better and not be as tired or as hungry during the days if I was to have a proper breakfast. But the problem goes back to not getting up on time.

I must admit I'm not going to bed on time. Ideally I'd like to be in bed for 10.30 nad aleep by 11. But this never happens. I go bed for about 11.30, read a bit and asleep after 12. Which is not enough sleep. But theres the thing, it doesn't mater what time I start preparing for the next day and start going to bed, whether I start at 9 or 9.30 I still never get in on time. I don't eve watch telly past 9 at night.

Theres an odd time I'd fall into bed early in the night with exhaustion at about 8 or 9 and still have difficulty getting up in the morning.

I like my job even though I work long hours. Lunch break, if I'm lucky to get time for one, could be at any time of the day. And just last week I had no time for a lunch break and didn't eat my packed lunch til 6 in the evening. Its the nature of my job I'm afraid and the part I hate.

So I start for 8.30, finish anytime between 6 and 7, with about 1 or 2 late eveings a week where I would finish anytime between 7 and 8.

Whatever about my hectic work schedule, it is the mornings I hate. I need a proper breakfast and have time to eat it, but I just cannot get up on time.

Any advice for me. Is there any easy way of getting up in the mornings?

    Im a perma-snoozer..at least 4 every morning.

OP, you're like me tbh. I am horrendous at getting up in the morning and even worse getting myself to bed on time. Im a nighttime person and i havent been able to change this. I was up at 7.15am this morning and honestly couldve cried it was so early for me. I LOVE my sleep but somehow hate going to bed early too. Id love to know the solution aswell.

I have tried going to bed early and making myself get up on time but i literally HATE the morning so much it falls apart after 2 or 3 days. Im generally not hungry in the morning either but i know how important breakfast is so im probably in a vicious circle.

you sound just like me im the same just cant get out of bed
so the last few mornings i moved my phone futher away so i have to get up to hit snooze still have a few more minutes but only hit it once or twice instead of full hour , simple but its working for me

if you hit snooze for 55 mins every morning, set your alarm 55 mins early then what you have it now.

i need to be up and out of bed at 7am, so i set my alarm for 6am and have an hour of snoozing before i have to get up

  • Same here. In my case I just don't get enough sleep, I'm exhausted from studying full time and working, and I find it so hard to get up. The best thing for me is to 'train myself' not to press snooze. So the minute the alarm goes off, I jump out of bed and straight to the shower (cold) or to splash cold water on my face. No matter how tired I am, I feel much better getting up and taking my time with breakfast than having an extra 45 mins sleep and rushing. If you do this for a couple of weeks, you won't press snooze anymore. I wish snooze had never been invented, it's just a nuisance and makes you late.

Oh my god I can't even comprehend how anyone can do this. The odd time I've had to be up really early for a flight or something like that, I'd still give myself 15-20 minutes to snooze, even if it meant setting my alarm for 4.30 instead of 4.45. Crazy habit.

OP, I am the exact same as you. Its a battle every morning no matter what.
One thing I do know though, is that setting your alarm that early is messing up your sleep, it would probably take a few days to get used to it but your losing nearly a full hour of sleep by doing that snooze thing (I do the same btw), so try getting into setting up 10 or 15 mins before getting up.

But overall ive no advice other advice as Ive the same problem, as a matter of fact I should be in bed now but Im not in the mood. Even though Ill be wrecked in the morning.

sometimes Ive to be up at 5 for early work shift, I still give myself an hour or even more of snoozing, its completely pointless but I just cant help it.

It's so pointless though. You're not really sleeping, it's really disturbed sleep that doesn't make you any less tired. Makes a lot more sense to just set it for 4.45, have an extra 15 mins of proper sleep and get up right away. Now, I've slipped into old snooze habits, but I will try to get out of them very soon. I hate snooze!

I used to have the exact same problem. Here's what worked for me!

Get an old school alarm clock, the type with the bells on it. Put it as far away from your bed as possible. Once you get out of bed to turn it off, stay out! Have a dressing gown and slippers ready to go, throw them on and go make a cup of tea, have breakfast...in other words, have a little ritual that you can do on autopilot. Forget about "snoozing", you're depriving yourself of quality sleep and it's too easy to keep hitting it "one more time".

It would also help to go to bed at the same time every night if you can manage it, even if it's 11 or 11.30. You'd still be getting roughly 8 hours sleep, which is plenty. If you want to read before bed, do it outside of your bedroom. Your bedroom is for sleeping in and it will help if you use it for sleeping only.

One other thing, try and make time to eat during the day, even if it's only 5 mins to eat a sandwich. I'm assuming you find the time to go to the toilet during the day, surely you can find a few mins to have some grub!

I used to have this problem (still do on occasion!). What worked for me was buying an inflatable mattress. Alamr goes off, I roll over and turn the deflate knob. Five minutes later, I'm literally lying on the floor with no option but to get up.

The one I have is one that just plugs in and inflates itself automatically in five minutes, so reinflating is not a problem.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

I also have a problem like this. I have to change my alarm every few months as I get so used to it it doesn't even wake me up sometimes. I have to set 2 alarms in different places in the room o make sure I get up!

    Hi OP,

I hate getting up early also, early meaning anytime that involves the necessity of an alarm! However, there are times in life when one just has to cop on!

Snoozing is an absolute habit and you would help yourself by not doing it at all. It interferes with the body's natural waking process. Put ur alarm to the other side of the room and you will have to physically get up to turn it off-then just go straight to the kitchen/shower/bathroom or wherever.

Sleeping is all about routine and getting to bed early enough for you to feel you can get up the following morning. You have to be persistant and just go to bed and lay there until you fall asleep. It takes approximately 21 days to form a habot like this! Be persistant.

Your erratic eating patterns don't help and could contribute to your lethargy.

Best of luck with the battle *

I've written a blog post on this, as it used to be a nightmare for me. Also check out article on google 'how to be an early riser' by steve pavlina.

Just to summarise what I've found: It is entirely a habbit you train yourself to. Go to bed EARLIER, get up at the same time no matter what day it is. Don't lash in caffeine after six, eat regular meals and not right before bed. NEVER EVER use the snooze button, it is a habit you HAVE to stop. It gets easier but it takes time. My OH goes to bed very early some nights, and later others but always gets up around 7 every day of the week. If she want's a lie in she gets back into bed after a potter around. You need to do this and train it into yourself. Don't watch TV in bed, don't read anything too tense or dramatic once you get into bed. If you can't sleep after 30 mins get up and do something: breathing exercised, read in another room, watch TV in another room. Then get back to bed. Use your bed only for sleeping (and sex) and NOTHING else.

It's like a sport, you need to put the training in.
