Worth getting for offline?

Hi everyone, thinking about getting the latest Call of Duty for Christmas as I have heard great things about it from Call of Duty 4 onwards, however the majority of my friends just play online the whole time, which seems to me like the main attraction.

But as someone who has never owned a first person shooter game in my life and would admit to being fairly dire at these type of games, is Call of Duty WaW2 worth getting for offline play alone or what are peoples suggestions?

My online doesnt seem to work for any game (if anyone knows their stuff about this a PM would be greatly appreciated btw)

    Thanks in advance.

Its not worth it for the single player alone as this will take you roughly 6 hours to complete on normal difficulty level. you should just rent it as you will finish it in a couple of sittings. When you say all games dont work online what exactly do you mean? whos your internet service provider? what format you on?

I can get onto PSN no bother, and download demos and stuff, but it takes ridiculously long, also when I buy a new game and need to install it, it takes about 10 hours, and then on for example FIFA 10, If I ever want to go onto an online match - it goes into the screen where each player would select his team but it wouldnt let either of us select a team.

Eh we're with Gaelic Telecom wireless broadband if thats what you mean? Sorry not good with any of this kind of stuff at all:o

That wireless broadband might not be the best for online gaming :( but i got the problem you have in fifa and i have Smart dsl so thats not your broadbands problem. you tried any other games?

I reckon it's completely worth it, especially as a present. True, it's short - 6 hours is really the span of the single player campaign - but it's beautifully cinematic and engrossing, a league ahead of most other first person shooters. Aside to the campaign, there's also special-ops mode, which is still a lot of fun on your own too to complete, it's a large variety of mini-missions.

I'd say go for it. Don't forget Call of Duty 4 as well, as the prequel, it's just as good campaign wise and would be a good place to start from before playing the Modern Warfare 2 campaign, though it lacks the special-ops add on.

Multiplayer is brilliant as well but to be honest even as a single player game only, it's as much fun as you'll have in any other first person shooter. You can play the special-ops missions in co-op with a friend too.

Spec-Ops and Singleplayer combined give you over 15 hours of gameplay offline. maybe try to get a copy second hand.

also find out more about your internet connection it might not be a recurring problem for all games.

Okay guys thanks think I might get one version of it, whether its the latest or an older one. And paul150, yes I've tried Fight Night Round 4, and for this I could get a match no bother but the problems this time where whenever I were to play online it would be ridiculously glitchy, which was also the problem when I played last years FIFA, and when I say glitchy I mean to the point where its unplayable.
