Airsoft - Clear AEGS

    Hi Folks,

I have a passing interest in Airsoft and recently fell into conversation with a few Airsofter's at a skirmish. The question was would they still play if they had to use clear or two tone AEG's? What is more important, the look or the playing? Does the MilSim theme make the day or is it just the idea of dressing up and being realistic in every regard?

It was split down the middle by the end of the conversation, just wondering what everyone's thoughts were seeing as these new laws will be shortly upon us.

    ironclaw.

Just so the poster and anyone else reading this is clear, there are no plans to introduce clear or two-tone aegs in this country!!

The new rules are about the importation of aegs and RIFs.

I'd rather have my nostrils ripped open with a boathook than play with clear AEGs.

    I've been misinformed so! :pac:

But if they are imported, does that not mean they have to be clear, and as Ireland doesn't make the AEG's, would that not mean eventually they will be the only AEG's available?

No, the new rules just ban PERSONAL imports, not imports by licensed retailers who will be the only ones allowed to import and sell and they can and will bring in "normal" RIFs.

If the AEG is clear it is not an RIF.

NOT TRUE! RIFs are NOT defined under Irish law, the info I've gotten from IAA say it is likely that clear aegs will be considered RIFs by the authorites here!

    Thanks for that!

There is no provision in Irish law in any way for clear aegs, they aren't defined or even called for.
    • We will never have to use them.
    • They likely will be as restricted as proper aegs so no gadget shop crap.
    • Proper retailers will stock proper aegs.

    Airsoft is safe.
