Yeah its not too bad for a beginner but you can do better. The general consensus around these parts is that the yamaha pacifica is th best guitar for a beginner (see here: http://www.thomann.de/ie/yamaha_pacifica_012bl.htm ) and combine that with this: http://www.adverts.ie/showproduct.php?product=168722&cat=16

    Cant go wrong!

    Thanks man.

Sorry I should have been more specific. I want to try and learn by myself so that's why I was drawn to that guitar that I linked because of the extras (Tuner, dvd etc) and was just wondering if the guitar itself is up to scratch.

That stuff is minor compared to getting a good guitar.

    For a tuner: http://www.guitarforbeginners.com/onlinetuner.html

And theres hundreds of beginner sites and youtube has lessons for most songs you want to learn to play so the dvd shouldnt be a consideration!

    Hi guys.

Just wondering is this a good guitar (and a good pack) for a beginner?

    http://www.xmusic.ie/product.php?productid=16189&cat=283&page=1

I don't know if it matters but the type of music I like is Blink 182 and bands like that.

    Thanks for any help.

I've been playing any stringed instrument that doesn't require a bow since I was about 8 years old. I'm 43 now, so take it as you might.

If you're serious about it, or just considering that you may become serious about it (and you didn't mention a budget):

    A. What was said about the Pacific is pretty much gospel, but.....
    B. To paraphrase St. Zappa: the guitar that's right for you is the guitar that fits in your hand the best, i.e., the one you feel physically the most comfortable playing. There is nothing that creates more non- or former guitarists than an instrument that's difficult or unpleasant to play or practice on.
    C. IOW, try out a LOT of guitars, if that's feasible given your location.
    D. Finally, if you're worried about it, the best sounding electric guitars are the ones that sound great when they're not plugged in.

    Good luck.

    Cheers lads.

I'm looking to get the guitar for xmas and that website says the Pacific is out of stock. Will i be able to get it in a shop in Dublin??

Thats all good advice Mjollnir but not for someone who has never played before as a beginner wont feel comfortable playing anything!.

Its the most un-natural, awkward thing in the world to begin playing guitar and a beginner will never possibly be able to pick out a good sounding unplugged guitar. I remember when i started I couldnt tell the difference between the rhythm and treble pickups!

Well, look at it this way:

When you're playing, just by yourself, and you hear something you like, then repeat it.

If you can do that, then everything that the Ramones, AC/DC, FEAR, the Sex Pistols, etc....almost any pop band in history has done, you can do. That's what they did.

If it rocks, another question altogether, then boy, do it in front of somebody.

Don't worry about pickups. Worry about whether you like it.

    That's all you need.

    Mj

The encore blaster packs are very good, you get a tuner, strap, stand, amp and also a very good starter guitar!
Heres a link to a review of them.

I put in an order for it last night.

Do you know if it will be shipped from England or Ireland and would you say it will be here for Xmas??

Sorry to sort of hi-jack this, but I want to start learning guitar soon. There's a normal (acoustic?) guitar here in the house like, is it grand to just use that or better to use an elec guitar?

    Cheers,
    Anto

We are based in belfast, it was shipped today, i would be confident that you would get it on monday, Tuesday at the latest. Hope your nephew gets a lot of enjoyment from it!
