Who exactly was Christoph Waltz supporting as an actor?

Nothing for Sharlto Copley in D9  Looks like Lovely Bones and Saoirse will probably get ignored for Oscars too

Is it just me or does that look like a piss poor collection? Will many others be in contention for the Oscars or is that it?

No acting noms for Hurt Locker cast especially Renner  disgraceful

Some of films havent even been released yet

I think most will also figure in the Oscar nominations

Apparently Shutter Island (Di Caprio, Scorcese) is getting rave early reviews but won't be in contention because Universal didn't want to fund two Oscar campaigns and dumped it to a February release. The money they wanted to pump into instead for the Oscars? The Lovely Bones, which is now 39% on Rotten Tomatoes and aside from Stanley Tucci for Best Supporting Actor, will probably be locked out of any contention. FAIL

The Oscars only have one category - comedies/musicals/drama all get lumped together. However, this year there are ten nominees. So they will have the same number of nominees as the Golden Globes, but in one category instead of two. There's also inherent bias to factor in - comedy films typically don't get nominated for the Oscars and generally don't win (everyone is still scratching their head over Shakespeare in Love). So the Oscar lineup will look significantly different from the Golden Globes lineup.

I imagine four of five drama nominees are locks. Inglourious Basterds is the one I'm not sure about - we'll see though. From the comedy/musical pile I think Nine is a shoe-in. Maybe Julie & Julia at a push.

Ignoring the populist fare which traditionally has been shut out in the past and in all likelihood will be shut out again this year (it's not the number of nominees that's the problem it's the snobbish demographics of the Academy), we can rule out Star Trek, District 9 and The Hangover at any rate.

That leaves the pool for those last four/five places looking like:
    The Road
    Up (looong shot)
    An Education
    A Single Man
    A Serious Man
    Invictus

I don't think for a second that's a definitive list (there may be a surprise or two in the works) - but I think it will be an unpleasant surprise like The Reader last year (so maybe Amelia against all critical odds).

I'm surprised that The Road wasn't mentioned among the list of Golden Globe nominees. I haven't seen the film yet myself but from what I have read about it it sounds very good.

Doom and gloom are soooooo 2008...

Some of the reviews suggest that while it's technically magnificent, it has trouble connecting with the audience. It's one of the films I'm most excited for next year, though.

I really wasn't expecting much from Up in the Air but it seems to be going down very well in the States.

Christina Aguilera, Tom Hanks and Neil Patrick Harris have joined the lineup of presenters at the Golden Globe Awards, according to The New York Times.

The trio will join previously announced presenters including Jennifer Aniston, Julia Roberts and Mel Gibson at the ceremony later this month.

Other celebrities who will take to the stage include Sophia Loren, Gerard Butler, Halle Berry and Mickey Rourke.

Robert DeNiro and Leonardo DiCaprio will present a special honour to director Martin Scorsese.

Ricky Gervais will host the ceremony, which airs on NBC on January 17.

I agree he did a great job as host

I expected Streep or the actress from Precious to win best drama actress but instead Bullock (im shocked also) won

I'm glad RDJ won he was great in Sherlock Holmes and he gives a good acceptance speech

Some odd picks but that's the Hollywood Foreign Press for ya. Glad to see Michael C Hall and John Lithgow get a nod each for Dexter, they were fantastic this season. And Gervais was hilarious, took the piss out of everyone and introduced Aniston as "Rachel off Friends". That Gibson moment was amazing too

Zach Galifianakis should got a nod for The Hangover - best comedic performance of the year
