Heating Oil Usage.

    Hi all,

    I have a Grant Combi-Boiler.

    It heats 5 rads in a fairly small cottage.

    I've ran out of oil a couple of times but thankfully not recently as it's hard to get it going again!

    I'm trying to get some info on how much oil is burned in a day. I'm usually in College during the day but am on holidays from Thursday so the heating will be on a lot more.

    I just put €300 in to the tank, is there any way (apart from the stick in the tank) to to tell how low the level of oil is, some kind of alarm or something?:o

    ps, the timer is gone on the boiler, is it hard to get that fixed?

    You can pit up an Oil Watchman for around €70 in Woodies etc. which will tell you the amount in the tank in 1/10ths. Very handy little device as it tells you on a remote receiver inside your house.

    I think the most foolproof way is to dip the tank periodically. Just a personal thing . The float gauges are very unreliable and the transmitter device is too expensive ( for me )
