I need to purchase one of these two Laptops today & I need an opinion as to which is the better machine.

This one has a larger screen but slower RAM & a slightly smaller HDD

This one has faster RAM a slightly larger HDD but a smaller screen

I'm a little unsure as to what the difference between the graphics capabilities of these two so I'm asking the question,

Which of the 2 would you recommend?

The second one is the better of the two.

Big screens are a big waste of battery life and portability. And you can always attach an external monitor later. Suddenly with an HDMI port my 15" laptop can become a 42" 1080p Bad Mother F*cker.

    Number Two.

17 inches is too big for a laptop, and the second looks better overall anyway. I'd agree and say go for that one.

I agree. The only reason you should get a large screen Laptop is if you intend to use it primarily for presentations while on the road etc. Other then that a smaller screen is always better. The bigger screen adds loads of weight and eats battery. Generally when 2 laptops are about the same price the one with the bigger screen gains a few LCD inches and performance specs come way down.
    Buy the 2nd one...

Thanks to all for the advice & opinions :)

Does the ACER Aspire come with a recovery partition or the option to create recovery discs?

    Hi gadget man,
I doubt they give you disks. Nobody seems to ship with disks anymore. I expect they have partitioned it so you should be able to get into recovery at start up. Thinks its Alt-F10 on Acers.

You could try this to make a recovery disk when you get your spankin new laptop. Its for an older model Acer but hopefully its still relevant...

    • When you start your computer press F2 {it will take you into your BIOS}; go over to Main; go down to D2D Recovery {make sure it is enabled}; F10 save; then your computer will restart.
    • When your computer boots: Press Alt+F10; it will bring up Acer eRecovery Management {at the bottom} click on Burn Disc;
    • then click on Create factory default disc; insert a blank disc in burner; click next.
    • It will give you step by step instruction on how to burn your disc; it will also inform you of when to change to another blank disc.
    • [Estimated image size is 6.4 GB. You will need either {blank} 11 CDS or 2 DVDs].

second one is better, screen size of the first is pointless for a laptop it defeats the purpose of it being portable
