    Anyone on here ever taken part in such a race.

    Training tips and advice needed. I am thinking of doing one next year. http://www.24hoursolo.co.uk/

    I can go to the mountain and ride all day but never tried the full 24 hour events. I have no idea what to expect.

    A friend did one event two years in a row. Sounds like the most important part was to have your fuelling strategy planned out very well and have a plan to clean the chain every couple of hours etc..

    Advice...wow...thats a big one

    First question you need to ask;

    Completion or competition?

    Then this can continue.

    Completion I'd say as this is the first time ever doing anything on this scale.

    Ok that makes it easier.

    Have you got a road bike?

    Not joking here. You'll need to get some miles in the legs so no better way initially.

    What time of the year are you looking to do it?

    Whats the longest you have ridden off road and how far was it?

    Road bike - Yes
    Off road - I can ride all day with a few stops in between. Planning an epic on boxing day so that will give me some idea as to where I am at.

    Physically fit running or biking most days. Ran an off road Marathon in October. I have been doing short distance races most weekends 8-13km. 10k time 41.45m Also doing Adventure races with mtb, kayak and running. Oh and the odd MTB duathlon. I know the running will only help stamina and I will be switching training to full biking with maybe a run on cross training days.

    The event is in May and will be on the trails of the 7 Stanes. Not sure how technical the course will be tho.

    For reference, I did the one in Mayo last year.

    It would probably be a lot easier by starting as part of a team. Even a pairing will be way easier than trying it solo. The hardest bit I found about riding for 24 hours on a loop was saddle soreness from being bumped around for that long on the MTB (and I'd be quite used to it from expedition length adventure racing), and boredom (Again, I'd be used to running around a short lap for 24 hours, but I found doing it on the MTB to be a lot more mind numbing... probably because of the lack of race info to keep me occupied/motivated). Doing it as a team should help greatly with both of those issues.
