Does any one know what the two lads in the tow truck parked at the bus stops on Trinity Street are there for? (other than smoke wit their feet up on the dash!)

It's part of Operation Freeflow - locate one of the tow trucks in the city centre during rush hour to deal with any city centre breakdowns.

And it's parked on College Street.

I doubt very much they smoke sitting in the truck, theres always an inspector walking up and down there, and any number of Gardai passing. Have you actually seen them smoking in the truck or are you just having a pop because they work for Dublin bus?

It could also be the steam rising from their feet...those safety boots are a killer for sweating one`s assets !!!

Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.

Bus inspector would probably be more likely to take them up on smoking in the van than a Garda I'd say. Provided both are smoking then the law is an ass in that circumstance. You're hardly gonna get second hand smoke from the people who used the van the day before.

And if they are carrying a driver in the cab?

I have seen the driver smoking in the cab of the Tow Truck. What reason would you have to doubt what I saw??

If Ciaranpm sees somebody (anybody,it does`nt HAVE to be a BAC employee) breaking the law then he has some options open to him.

    1.Confront the person concerned.
2.Report the issue to the Gardai (Very close at hand in this case)
3.Report the issue to the Company concerned.
    4. Report the issue to the Office of Tobacco Control
    5.Do none of the above
6.Seek a conscensous opinion before actually taking any of the options above.

Posting one`s observations on a forum such as this and subsequently attempting to develop them into some form of personal affront thread only tends to detract from the validity of the initial observation.

Smoking in ANY workplace is illegal under the relevant Workplace Health & Safety leglislation, that includes Company Cars,Vans and Trucks belonging to ANY employer (It does`nt HAVE to be a BAC vehicle)

As many other BAC employees will attest to here, the company does have a VERY robust anti-smoking procedure in place with no shortage of supervisory and managerial types on high-alert for contaventions of the regulations.

It`s probably simpler to divide Ciaranpm`s original post into two seperate sections.

    A) .

Concise factual answer from KC61...ok so far then ?

B.) (other than smoke wit their feet up on the dash!)

    1,2,3,4,5 above ?

Did I not give you a reason in my post? Im sure I did. Anyway heres another, Drivers are been sacked for smoking in the Vicinity of there bus. ie. two feet on pavement with bus door open. I doubt maitiance staff would be that stupid when you have an Inspector who is walking up and down and would be only too delighted to add another notch to his growing record.

another rules that DB fail to enforce in the slightest.

I've been on the 150 a couple of times and drivers smoking while driving the bus:eek:

    Were they male drivers

If they were it dis-proves the theory that men cannot multi-task.:P

Thank you KC61 for the answer. If they are ready to pull out and get broken down buses of College Green and keep things moving thats not a bad idea........

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 78,580 ✭✭✭✭Victor

I saw the truck today. Nobody was smoking. ;)

    [cynical]
so instead of ensuring the busses run properly, they plan for them to break down and have a truck on standby just in case:p:p:p
    [/cynical]

In fairness though it is a good idea.

So do they only have two between all the depots or is it one of two from Donnybrook?

Each depot has a recovery vehicle.

That's what I was thinking was required. No point in having one from Donnybrook dive all the way to Broadstone or similar.

They must have quite an easy life those trucks, low mileage, good maintenance, little use.

Ah but they have their excitement sometimes...

    Thankfully yes.

I don't think any of us want to go back to the days of buses breaking down on a daily basis.
