finding work. who to go to

    so im planning to go around the city in the next few days looking for part time work while im in college in the likes of dunnes, debenhams. so my question is how do i appraoch it. when i go into the shop who do i look for -the manager? i read somewhere that they get you to fill out application forms.

    Depending on the place, ask to speak with a HR manager or manager, but say if they aren't available and you are encouraged to leave your cv there then when you get home later make a call to the store saying you left in your cv and can you now speak to HR if they are avail, etc. That way you have at least already shown initiative in your inital enquiry, by calling in, and following up with a call is bound to help as well- if they have anything!

    Personally speaking, I was looking for a second job there a while back for a booster to my income, it was two weeks ago, and I was too late for most of the obvious places in Dublin city centre-- they had already got their staff for the Christmas period. I did the cold calling in to the stores. But I just spent a half day at this so you never know if you put in the effort!

    So your best bet could well be through an ad at this stage.
