    Hi all,

Sorry if this is a little OTC, but a friend of mine is a dentist and he's running a old version of XLTC and may be looking for alternatives soon.

What do you use yourselves - why do you like it? why do you dislike it?

Are there many packages on the market for Irish Dental Practises? Would it be worth while him sourcing something from the UK?

    Many thanks.

i used kodak r4 in the uk, it's available over here too, and pretty easy to use. if the order is pretty big, don't hesitate to ring the others and see if they can better the price. they always can.

Software of Excellence is the best I've seen. It's the most expensive though, too. Available from Henry Schein.

Another SOE here, it is expensive but has a lot of powerful features. I know one dentist that uses google calander , open office and a pen and paper seems to work fine. Bridges and XLCR are very ireland specific however with the PRSI all but gone and the medical card on the way out spending on these seems less important.

I heard that kodac software was very good and looked the business.

Around 10k to start with a few licences and yearly service charge circa 6k. Also SMS cost per message. Tis powerful though.

    Hi
Have a look at Open Dental an American Software. www.opendental.com
Work as a Dental Nurse and have experience with XLCR, XLCR II and a small bit with Exact. To be honest the American system is brilliant and as far as i know much cheaper and great tec support during conversion and after!

that looks really good. no upfront cost, just $149 pm for 6 months and then falling to $99. I haven't spent much time checking it out but prices like that are attractive. I have Exact but have opted out of their expensive monthly support program.
