explorer.exe

    Hi all

I've a little problem with explorer.exe at present. Everytime I turn on the computer I get the firewall pop-up with explorer.exe looking to connect to the internet. If I choose No then it asks a few more times and thats it. If I say yes then so it goes.

Nothing at all really happens but if I choose to block it from accesssing the internet then it may cause a hang with Windows explorer later on. This is simply rectified as I end and re-run explorer.exe but its an annoyance everytime I see it come up after Windows boots. When explorer.exe is run again it asks for internet access again.

It first appeared a few weeks ago and I believe it started around 26.11.2009. At this point I had a Windows update with something called Data Service Centre 3.0 (I could be well wrong here with the name as Im in work writing this and the problem is on my home PC, but the update name was something similar to that). I've looked it up and it appears to be a common things thats come up with a lot of people, though some have different problems relating to it. Some guy posted on a Microsoft forum saying that it was not something from Microsoft, and this guy was a Microsoft engineer of some sort.

I know it does sound a little bit like a virus or other but scans have picked up nothing new. When I googled it it didnt appear like others were treating it as a virus either. I dont remember installing anything esle at this stage.

I will get the proper name for the update at a later stage when Im back at my own computer and I'll post it up, but I just thought Id ask to see if anyone else has had something like this recently? and if so, how you'd gotten on with it? If you'vehad something similar and gave the name of the update I could tell you for definite if it's the same as the one Im talking about, it's just slipped my mind at present.

    sorry for the long post

    Many thanks

Do you leave Explorer open when you shut down? If you do, it is likely to reopen when you boot up and therefore try to connect.

Try closing Explorer before shutting down and see if it is any different.

Software Distribution Service 3.0, thats what was installed with Windows Update. It was also installed before and I believe its something to do with how Windows updates. However, this little problem only started after my Windows update on 25.11.2009
