    Hi all,

Just leaving work last friday and notice a new halpenny store open just off grafton st ( If you stand outside burger king it's facing you ! )

Very small store but will be handy having a shop in dublin city centre.

They were just setting up on friday and the lads there told me they are planning a few opening deals over the next week or so.

Might be worth checking out if your near by. They had a nice set of nike sling shot irons inc two rescue clubs reduced to €249.

Did anyone see the Apprentice last night? One of the teams went in to Halpenny Golf & asked to borrow some lime green polo tees, "they'll only be worn for 2 hours or so" & the shop assistant said no problem. I wont be buying any lime green tees from them in the near future :D

Ha ha I saw that too. Guess there's no need for any of us to buy golf gear in future, just borrow it from Halpenny.

"I'd like that Cobra driver, those Callaway forged irons and a dozen Pro V1s, but I'm on a tight budget so I'll just borrow them for a few hours, thanks!!"

nice little ad for them alright,
haven't seen the shop on grafton street yet, hoping to have a look in on the way home from work

I popped in for a quick look earlier and it's not bad. Reasonable selection of clubs and clothes just now. It's a bit rough and ready just now, but work is due to begin after xmas on making it into a 2 floor shop and it'll then be fully stocked.

    not exactly 2010 fashion though
most of the shirts looked like something you'd see monty wearing
and off the clubs in stock, i didn't really see anything price-wise to spark an impulsepurchase
the bloke running the place is sound though
and more than willing to knock 10/15% off prchases

Just popped in at lunch time, very disappointed as they don't have much in at all yet. Hopefully it improves after Christmas

It'd be great to have a good golf shop in town, no doubt about that. But this isn't it! (yet) There is virtually nothing there! A couple of sets of irons and some shirts. That's about your lot. This needs stock and fast or it'll end up joining the long list of failed businesses on that street.

Jesus lads, relax. I said earlier on that it's due to be properly done up and stocked (2 floors) after Xmas. The city centre will have a good golf shop by the sounds of it. Bit harsh to be giving it a bashing before they've even got properly set up.

Well if thats the case then thats good to hear.

Was in there today and yes was little disappointed with the stock but they are new and if they do what you say there going to do after xmas then Dublin will have the decent shop we are looking for

if it's not properly set up they should not have opened, bad timing on their part, probably had to open b4 xmas and it's probably a bit of a rush job but i can't beleive a shop opens up in town half stocked,it's not the right way to do business,i went in,walked straight out and won't be back again

Everything has to start somewhere. It's a small golf shop for christ sakes, not a River Island or Next!

They're clearly taking a big financial risk by opening up a retail shop in the current climate. They'd start paying rent straight after signing the lease, so credit to them for opening up a bit earlier (albeit with limited stock) and perhaps covering some of their initial costs.

Great to see a bit of entrepreneurial spirit.

Ah come on now, you gotta be taking the piss?! Shops often first open in a rushed, half arsed job but in time they get the required stock to fill the shop. I've not been in but if it is two floors, therefore they require a lot of stock which costs a considerable amount, they probably have to open it to start getting a bit of money for the rent which in that part of town would be expensive.

I was in the Halfpenny shop in Swords at the weekend and must say its a grand store, very well stocked, maybe a bit messy but overall very good. This old couple were buying a caddycar (golf motion) for a friend. The asking price was €299, well anyway they naturally wanted it cheaper and bought it for €285, but that was after the guy in the shop made a big song and dance about a free holdall that they were getting with the trolley, do you know how much its worth...? €60 (worth no where near that amount, more like €15). I was like would you ever shut the hell up and give this auld couple the god damn €14 off, they were spending €285 on it plus some other bits and pieces, half felt like telling them you can get caddycars in Woddies across the road for €250, but of course I didn’t. I felt like the fella in the shop didn't realise the country is in a recession! But sorry getting back to the point the Swords shop is good and well stocked, and I would envisage the shop in town will be the same. Will look forward to going in but hope I don’t see that fella from swords there!!

I wish I hadn't given any feedback now!

For the record, I'd like to see this shop do well.

Hi, went to the new shop, thought it was pretty good, I was in the Lucan shop a while back and it's developed into a really good golfshop so I expect this one will improve likewise. Nice to be in a place where they actually care, unlike some other places we all know!
