Hi just wondering if anyone could help me,

I bought an iphone 3G from adverts.ie and when the phone arrived it did not work. I connecting it to mains power, my laptop, my pc and still nothing.

I also did the reset thing of pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds and the screen is just blank, no lights, no logo no battery icon nothing.

    Any ideas?

Contacted the seller and he said it was working fine when he sent it? but since i took it out of the package its just been dead

I've seen a situation where my 1st Gen iPhone won't turn on, they battery has run so low. The trick was to leave it charging for 15-20mins, then try turning it back on.

    That should work.

    thanks for replying Tom,

But i should have mentioned that i've tried that already, even left it charging overnight... do you think it could be a hardware issue?

Hmmm, don't know. Did you try switching it on while the power cable was still plugged in to the iPhone? If it did switch on, that would suggest the battery was gone.

If it didn't switch on, well that is very odd. No idea, I'm afraid.

no it will not respond plugged in or not i mentioned all this to the seller and he thinks its a simple problem but i personally believe that the phone was damaged in the post, because it took almost 2 weeks to get to me and was not in a box just in bubblewrap.

    Anyway thanks again

yeah and it should have at least one week warranty from the seller

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,039 ✭✭✭bazmaiden

i honestly wish i could but hes basically not accepting that i feel i was a little ripped off myself as there were many complications from the phone as mentioned earlier it took 2 weeks to deliever!!

But no he doesnt want to take it back he gave me e30 to repair it, which i personally feel should not be up to me

Yeah man I think you got ripped off. If that was me I would be definitely be looking for my money back. How did it take two weeks to be delivered within Ireland ??

better report him to the mods on adverts so he wont do the same thing to anybody else. then get his address and show up on his doorstep and demand a refund

Just got a phone call from the guy in the repair shop and its not good..

Basically he told me that the phone is completly waterlogged and not only that but he insists that the phone never worked!!

So he said if i do report it he can verify that the phone was never operational

    That's bad news :(

    1. Report the seller to mods immediatly

    2. Report seller to Garda and let seller know. Might be useless but might get seller thinking .

    3. Tell seller u demand a refund and get written report from tech findings as evidence for Garda .

Sorry but that seller is a Fu**ing scum*ag , no 2 words about it !
If I was ripped like that I would leave some nice feedback on his sellers profile , but I'm guessing he has no cred nor would be bothered ( probably no previous feedback) .
Its people like that who instigate fear in people who want to buy and sell on line .

Do all u can to get some cash back , and best of luck .

Make sure you don't loose the phone as well as money.
But that's the chance you gotta take.
Be cautious.Save all emails and take screen shots for later use.

everyone can be a great actor over the internet... but in saying that there *is* more honest people in the world, but when it comes to 2nd items its always risky

I just checked the said Ad, if you see his reply from start he insisted on posting from day 1, so i presume he knew it all along that ph is faulty.

That's a little harsh considering what you don't know. Are you in full possession of the facts? Do you know the full story? How do you know what happened the phone in transit?

Well at least that is something. Fingers crossed you get it sorted amicably.

Hey guys i know this is an old thread but the situation has still not been resolved, on the 24th of Dec the seller said to me because of a change in address

"il touch base it next few days with an address that it best to send to once i know where il def be after new year..later"

so i left it for a few days, since i heard nothing today i wrote to him today asking what was the story?

And i'll be honest his reply was pretty staggering after giving the benefit of the doubt.

"are you taking the absolute piss man.. i presumed from your complete and utter lack of communication over the xmas you had got the phone sorted..

im sick to death of this to be honest with ya and if you have any more issues with it, take it up with the mods because i cant believe we 11 days into jan b4 i hear anything from you and the alleged damaged phone...

ive tried to be as reasonable as possible with you now mate but ive not dealing with this anymore."

This is just too far man ive had the phone for almost 2 months now and he just seems to be ducking and diving his way out

What did the mods say about this carry on? Stop been nice about it, time to get your money back. This lad is taking the pure micheal out of you.

Oh and name and shame the fool.

No I won't name and shame him yet as i am trying to be as fair as possible but I'm definatly beginning to lose it.

Its almost dismay on my behalf when he replies, actually unbelievable.
Now he wants me to send it registered post to his "buddy" in Cambridge but he doesn't have an address for him yet.

    Its a bloody joke

    Baz ,
Stop it now , you have been 100% genuine and honest up until now , it's time to get tough .
This seller knew exactly what he was doing from the moment he posted the add.
You were his perfect victim , an honest bloke who won't get too pushy.
Well it's up to you now to either roll over or stand up to his end game , cause that's what he is doing with his last communication , thinking you will just disappear if he strikes a final harsh denial.
Report him to the mods now ( doubt he gives 2 fcuks) , warn him about the guards and really rattle his cage.
Do not send the phone to any dodgy address , this phone going missing in the post would be his perfect solution.
Stand strong a persue this scamster , I won't repeat what I said before about him as I was accused of been "harsh" ... I could smell a rat from your 1st post , now it's up to you make sure he gets caught.

    Good luck.

    M
