white screen on mac pro :[

    randomly, my mac book pro has a white screen with the apple logo and a loading circle.

    I have started it with the shift key down and with ctrl + fn + p + l and neither have made a difference.

    The welcome noise is still there when I switch on.


    My laptop has never failed before this!!

    Boot from the install disc (insert the disc and hold c as it boots), open Disk Utility from the Utilities menu, and verify/repair the hard disk.

    i don't have a boot disc unfortunetly ... :( is there a way I can download it ?!

    No. There's probably something wrong with your hard disk. Either it has failed or has become corrupted. You'll need a boot disc to confirm this or run repairs. You'll have to get a copy of Mac OS X from somewhere.

    Yeah I got a boot disk, and when I eventually got my computer on again, there was the following problems;

    1. System Pref repeatedly shuts down
    2. Sound is muted
    3. backlight is off
    4. response time very slow
    5. iTunes non-responsive

    The activity monitor seems to look normal ...
