Hi ,I've got a sony 6.1 receiver and speakers and I'm thinking about replacing the cable with 80 strand cable.

I read in a couple of reviews before I bought the system ,that the sound was better after the cables were replaced.
It's hard to know though ,if these people have any experience of what good sound is:(
Would it be worth my while replacing ?

I can get a 100mt roll for about €40 ,the cost doesn't bother me ,it's just the hassle of running new cables.

    thanks.

Could you say which model receiver and speakers do you have ? Replacing the spaker wire which comes with package systems is usually a good idea - the question is whether you will notice the difference and whether that difference is worth the hassle of re-running speaker cable. When I started out I replaced speaker wire with 79 strand stuff and thought it made a difference, but I had no difficult with the speaker run. If you don't have an issue with the sound you're currently enjoying, or if running new cables is a serious hassle, then i'd leave well enough alone - you can run new cable if/when you rpelace your speakers.

Thanks for that ,the system is http://www.sony.co.uk/product/hcs-cinema-surround-kit/ht-ddw890

I haven't actually run any trunking yet for the cables ,nothing is hardwired.
My main quibble with the sound is theres not much from the rear speakers ,not much depth.

would this receiver be able for decent speakers ?

    Cheers.

As far as the rear speakers are concerned, you should check in the set-up of the receiver that you have the levels set correctly for an evenly balanced sound between the front and the rear speakers. It's also worth remembering that rear speakers carry effects audio, not full range. That receiver would be well able for a step-up from the set of speakers that came with it, such as the Tannoy SFX5.1 or Jamo 102, even up to something like the Kef 2005.3 or Mordaunt Short Alumni - the first two are around stg200, the kef and MS are about stg500, so you have scope to upgrade ata later stage if you want.

If the cost of replacing the speaker wire is not a significant isue then I'd go ahead - you're not going to do any harm, that's for sure.

Will do Ritz , I must of got my wires crossed with the cable price ,I ended up paying €58 for 100m of 79 strand.

    Thanks.

Edit ; - Sorry ,any chance I can use my denon speakers as the two front channel speakers ?

If those speakers are better for you I don't see why not - in general it makes sense to have the three front speakers all the same brand - the center is usually specifically designed for the purpose - in order to have similar voicing across your front sound but the Denons are likely to be better quality than the front speakers wich came with the set and you shoud be able to compensate with the settings in the receiver to adjust the center channel for any obvious level mis-match.

Thanks very much ritz ,for the sound advice;)

I'll stick with the surround speakers for the moment and just get a complete new set after christmas.

    Have a good one! ,
    Cheers.

How'd all this work out for you OP? I am after cutting the rear cable of one of my speakers by mistake. Is it worth just replacing that one or them all? I am by no means an audiophile and am relatively happy with the sound quality of my amp which is the same as the OP's. However, seeing as I have to get new cable should i spend a little on one or a bit more on and replace the entire run? I should add rerunning the cable is not much hasssle.

I'd have to say that it was improved a little ,nothing major.
It was more a benefit for me to place the speakers were I wanted.

When I get some money together ,I'll be getting better speakers and amp ,so I needed to buy it regardless.
