How does your club conduct the voting at the AGM in terms of counting, casting vote, secret ballot etc....... what is the procedure? Our is on Monday night week and I think there will be a few elections to conduct which may be contentious. Thanks

In our club, every paid up senior(over 18) club member, gets a pice of paper to write their vote on, very very basic stuff but i dont know of any other way it could be done at short notice.

sorters and counters are taken from the crowd and this is how it works.

ps its up to yourself to find a dark corner to write your vote, ya fold it up and place it on the top table

all adult members who attend have a vote and its on paper. special exceptions are made for members who wish to vote who are sick or cannot attend.

a member is fully paid up with membership number as of start of Gaa year.

    Chairman has casting vote.

We sign in everyone who attends the meeting. We then know who is paid up or not. So we could have 100 at A.G.M but only 87 are full members so we have 87 voting slips to hand out the result of the vote should be 87. The procedure is announced at the start of elections.

Most clubs have their A/G/M at this time of the year but the offical guide is always worth consulting on who can vote. The way it operated before was membership had to be paid by early February or you could only be an associate member which means you cant vote.

thats great - so does the chairmans vote get counted at the end only if its a tie or if its 10-9 and his vote would make it 10-10 then his vote counts twice making the vote 10-11?

When I was Chairman of our club I abstained from all votes as I would be the person to call the vote and kept my vote in the event of a tie so I had only 1 vote.

everyone gets the same vote and in the event of a tie, and only in the event of a tie, the chairman gets and extra casting vote.
