    Hi
My company have offered me redundancy having been there fro 15 years. I am the only person they have offered it to.

I don't really want to accept it but feel that i will have no choice really. If they want me gone, then they will make it happen one way or another.

Anyone got any advice on how to handle this? How do I deal with work? do i verbally agree to anything? is there a differenc between voluntary and compulsary redundancy?

Is it possible to agree a date in the future?

Is there anything else i should know or consider?

I am very upset and worried about the future, paying my morgage and supporting family.

    Thanks

First things first; why have they offered you redundancy? Are you paid more than the others you work with? Are you there longer? Is your job no longer required? Are they still making a profit?

Secondly; how much have they paid people in the past who were made redundant? If I was being let go from a job after 15 years in a company that was making a profit I'd be negotiating hard for 6+ weeks salary per year as a payment which in your case is about a years salary as a lump sum. However statutory minimum in your case is about 15 grand.

Remember, if they are only offering it to you AND you think they will get rid of you anyway, this is the best chance you have to negotiate a good deal for yourself. If they were making 10 people redundant then you'd all probably have to get a similar deal.

    Don't verbally agree to ANYTHING.

Let them make an offer, then take it away and consider it.

Unless they are insane, they will tread VERY carefully on how they treat you. Making one person redundant is a legal minefield. They can leave themselves open to unfair and / or constructive dismissal by even discussing it with you.

It all really depends on your own circumstances. I would start thinking about whether or not you are employable elsewhere... and how long it would take you to get another job. If you think you'd get work within 6 months and you can score a lump sum equal to 12 months salary, then you may be better off accepting it.

    Thanks 3Data

I work in a sales job in an industry that has seen serious downturn. The company have been over the past year making people in other sections of the company redundant. I feel that i am being targeted over a couple of problems with clients, and they are using this as a stick to beat me. Other people had problems too but they weren't recorded on file. Mine were. That's why I think they will want to get rid of me one way or another..

I know that its probably not legal but they are telling me that I am a liability and that they are "offering" me redundancy as a softener. Its a family run business and none of them have any interest in employees - just money.

Any suggestions how you would start negotiations on increasing the amount of the payment? I don't want to say that I am accepting being made redundantcy yet in case it affects signing on or anything.

Do you recommend Citizen's advice bureau for info and advice?

I am far from an expert in these things.

HOWEVER i really really advise you to ensure you have detailed records of every discussion regarding redundancy etc that they brought up with you.

Citizens Advice is a good idea, and it would be worth talking to an employment lawyer (a good one). The money will be well spent.... just a chat should be all you need for starters.

You seem to be pretty sure they want rid and it's good that you are prepared to admit that. In that case your objective is to get out on your terms with as good a settlement as possible.

    The very best of luck.

what you mentioned above would have alarm bells ringing this is what you would be entitled to as statuary redundancy pay two weeks per week for every year served plus a bonus week also its caped at 600 euro per week .
as the other poster said make notes of everything said to you wether it be in passing or a formal meeting think like this who, what, why, where, when most companies would back down when confronted with someone that has specifics&dates.(trust me i have done it in the past to cover myself)
