Inspired by an article I saw in the Sunday Times, I was wondering what Irish team would the Boards.ie posters pick ? Who would be in your 22 Man squad ??? This is simply an exercise in picking who has been your best over the decade. I dont wish to start a debate about who should be in the team, as each person will have their own views.

    My selection would be

    D.Wallace
    J.Heaslip
    E.Miller

    P.O Connell
    M.O Kelly

    J.Hayes
    K.Wood
    P.Clohssey

    R.OGara
    P.Stringer

    D.Hickie
    B.ODriscoll
    R.Henderson
    S.Horgan

    R.Kearney

    D.Humphreys
    T.OLeary
    G.D'Arcy
    S.Easterby
    D.O Callaghan
    M.Horan
    J.Flannery

Every player that was part of the 2008/09 season's squad is part of the greatest Irish team.

They may, as a whole, have been the best Irish team of the decade, but there were better players in the earlier part of the decade who weren't on the team. Wood was better than Flannery, Hickie was better than Fitz etc. etc.

    They'll do for me.
All the rest is just Ali v Tyson chat.

True, but I might actually have to do work if I stopped wasting time in engaging in such discussions.

Hard to leave wallace out but I'm a big fan of out and out 7s. Would have picked Wallace at 6 but i cant recall him ever starting there.

I was half tempted to go with a Miller Gleeson Costello back-row for old school Leinster-ness but it just wouldn't be right. :pac:

I actually think if Gleeson had been played more he'd be in a team of the decade on his own merits.

Miller - Great player, but really he was at his peak in the late 90's and dont think was ever that same player in the Noughties.
Gleeson - Erm, no - talented no 7, but not in the same class as Wallace or Easterby.
MOk - Always preferred DOC, think he offers more despite Mal's number of caps and consistency.
Hendo - Just misses out to Darce, excellent in the early years and his partnership with Bod on the 2001 Lions trip was deadly.
Kearney - Still to early for him to be ahead of Murphy who was super talented and deserves his spot.
Axel - Just misses out to Jamie, great player and servant to Irish Rugby.
