    A few suggestions here.

I'd probably go with something simple like a Cateye Strada Cadence. Though I haven't used a Cateye for a few years the one I did have worked well.

edit: although PRD_412226_1624crx.aspx are not great

For training you should make sure you get one with a heart rate monitor!

Rutland Cycling on Ebay are doing good deals on the Ciclosport range. This http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ciclosport-CM-4-4A-Wireless-Cycle-Computer-HR-New-57452_W0QQitemZ250527667714QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Sporting_Goods_Activity_Monitoring_MJ?hash=item3a549cd602 at £40 has HRM, altitude, cadence option (they were selling the cadence kit for £5 last week). If you really want to push the boat out this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CICLOSPORT-HAC-4-PRO-PLUS-HAC4-HEARTRATE-MONITOR-57441_W0QQitemZ330374831118QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Sporting_Goods_Activity_Monitoring_MJ?hash=item4cebdfdc0e at £80 has everything you can imagine plus PC upload and analysis software. They charge a fortune for postage to Ireland but maybe they'd negotiate!

I would certainly agree that heart rate is a lot more useful than cadence. To be honest I rarely look at cadence any more.

Don't know where you're based but I saw a Shimano Flight Deck in Mike's Bikes Dun Laoghaire last week for €50. Seemed like a good deal to me

There was one of these on my bike when I got it. The buttons to start/stop were on the hoods which I found a PITA, as I found myself accidentally switching it off if I climbed with my hands on the hoods. I chucked it and got a basic Cateye.

Go with the Cateye Strada Cadence, can't fault it. Would like to stretch to the wireless version but it's about double the price.

Remember thought that wired versions will be more reliable (had to send back my Polar recently because of troubles, damn thing still won't sync with the PC too).

Yeah that's what I use, if I'm honest!!

Can't vouch for the Flight Deck but thought someone might bag a bargain.

Hey, does this include the sensors too (like speed cadence & hr)? If so, and it all works perfectly, I'll take it off your hands. Thanks ;)

Cateye have dropped the wired Strada from their range for 2010 - I was looking for one earlier this year and they were not to be had in the LBSs.
