Please feel free to move if in the wrong place.

I need a plumber, I know that - my system has broken down I don't know why and I know nothing...so I know I need professional help - I am wondering what the cost might be - just a rough estimate.

Gas boiler 2 years old, bad water pressure, no heat upstairs and now the boiler won't work, it keeps flashing red. I believe it's a water problem, some valve problem maybe definitely needs water added and I can't do it.

I wonder if any one can give me a ball point figure and if I call someone out will they invoice me or do I have to pay upfront and on the day?
    (funds are tight)

    thanks
oh any can anyone recommend someone or some firm. (live in south west dublin)

It sounds like it might just be a pressure problem. Was the rads bleed much. If its just repressuring it can be done as part of a service if you speak nicely to the plumber. However if you have not been bleading the rads there might be underlying problems.

Thanks for replying so fast - oddly enough the heating was slow to get going this morning and very soon after I noticed the rads had cooled down, at the same time the washing machine had been on but then stopped as no water was going into it..? The cold tap in the kitchen worked and in still working, the tank in the attic is filled and the toilet is filling as normal, but boiler fires up and stops and I now need a new washing machine as I wrecked the old one today.

your washing machine and heating are on two diufferenct circuits so have nothing to do with eatch other, how did you wreck the old machine

There you go below he will invoice you and let you pay later. So will the gas board. Dont worry just get yourself heat.

Firstly has your boiler been serviced since it was installed 2 years ago?

It most likely just needs to be repressurized considering all rads downstairs seem to be working

what pressure is the gauge on the boiler showing?

You shouldnt need to pay up front you would get an invoice

If you want i can talk you through the process or if you want you can google my companies name and you will find my contact details on my website,im in south dublin

You will get an invoice as soon as the job is complete and you will be expected to pay it there and then, no buisness that wants to stay in business will give credit.

Saying that you could possibly fix it yourself.

First off, what is make and model of boiler?

Thanks for replies, got it sorted - just got a number from golden pages and they came out fairly promptly.
The guy said there was hardly any water in the system and maybe we have a leak but as we haven't noticed any water stains or damage anywhere I don't know where it might be.

He replaced some valve's and a length of pipe, re-filled the system/re pressurized the system and vented the rads.

It cost in total E136 which I was happy to pay upfront. I have heat.

I will probably replace 2 rads in the coming months. actually they are a bit leaky at the place where you turn them on and off so maybe there's a problem there.

Oh and re: the washing machine - I pulled the door off and lost the things that hinge it on the inside, before that it made a loud bang and blew some fuses and the drum had been making 'bad' noises, and had to practically fill it manually. And as it's already been fixed once this year - I think it's time for a replacement.
