Need to convert .avi videos to .mp4

    Think this is the right place for this, if anyone can recommend a free program for this it'd be handy, every one I tried was dodgy and couldn't get it to work

    Try VLC, open the file that you want to convert, and then go file, save/convert, and it prompts for codec, and filename ext, and then converts.

    bear in mind that .avi and .mp4 are just container formats, and the codec used would be the reason that something might not be played.
