mac screen problem

I have a macbook pro 2. Its two yrs old. recently it has been acting up a little forcing me to do several forced shutdowns which i know are not good for it but i have no choice as it will stay stuck on the one screen with the rotating ball for hrs not doing anything.

Last night i turned it on. It made the usual start up noise with the HD but nothing came on the monitor. Because i could not see what was on the monitor i could not close it and so had to force shutdown. I worked again this morn but now in the last few mins when i tried to start it up again(from sleep mode) there is nothing on screen. The light on the front is paler than normal. It is plugged in and battery is full.

Lastly anytime i want to send it to sleep mode i have to manually do it as opposed to pulling down the monitor as when i do that it wont start up again and i have to force close and re-open.

As i am on flatmates laptop i will have ltd access to net as she is always on it so i have put as much info into post as i can think of. If you need to know anything else that you think may help you help me then il answer asap.

    Thanx for reading................

sounds like a gpu issue. there's an on going program for 2.2,2.4 & 2.5Ghz macbook pros. it'll need to go to an Apple Authorised service centre to verify.

Might also be a RAM problem. I have experience of loose or bad RAM causing similar issues. Have you installed any RAM recently? It might be worth taking both chips out and reinserting them securely.

could be the start of a logic board failure.

Try plugging it into an external monitor (if you have one) and blindly entering your password once you feel it's booted up to that screen, if nothing comes up on the external screen your GPU is fecked but covered under an extended 3 year warranty
