    hi,
i find my foundation always goes blotchy throughout the day, i use either a rimmel foundation or isadora foundation and no matter what i find after about four hours i have a big dirty looking face, its so embarassing. I sometimes use a bronzer over the foundation too.

Can anyone recommend a good foundation?

Do you suffer with dry skin?

Are you using a moisturiser regularly and do you use a primer under your foundation?

If your face looks "dirty" then it sounds like you're using a foundation that's too dark for your skin tone.

You need to look at your skincare regime as well as the type/brand of foundation. If you have oily skin, use products for oily skin. Use an oil-free moisturiser and give it at least 10 minutes to sink in before putting your foundation on.

I haven't used Rimmel foundation in about 10 years but I find "drugstore" brands to be quite oily. If you can afford it, get a decent foundation from the likes of MAC/Benefit/Clinique or try a powder mineral foundation. I have an oily T-zone and I use Clinique Superfit foundation (25-30 euro), which absorbs oil really well.

Are you washing your face thoroughly before you put on your foundation? Try using a primer and let it dry for a good bit before you put on your foundation. And powder when you need to. Also sounds like your foundation colour is too dark for your skin.

if the blotching and the patches are quire dry, i would reccomend mixing your foundation with a moisturiser. doesnt really effect the coverage, but helps with the drying out of the skin.

definetly make sure you are following good skin care but also i would say to stop using bronzer if you can and use a translucent powder. i have good enough skin and i use chanel foundation usually with translucent powder. recently though when i ran out of it i had t get a dark bronzer type powder and it definly does cause it to become blotchy and effects its staying power. every body knows fake tan can look kind grubby and dirty and bronzer is the same so before you go buying expensive foundations invest in a translucent powder and see how you get on.

find a really good foundation that matches your skin tone...go in to boots of BT and get them to do your make up saying you only want a liquid foundation then get a translucent powder...i use L'Oreal loose powder but Dior do a nice one too that comes pressed with a mirror which is always handy and is the one i use going out!!! i think its really handy cause if you start to feel "shiny" you can just apply some more to the areas that need it with out having to rematch the colour on your whole face!!!

also use a foundation brush...i find it applies my foundation much better and that i don't need a huge amount of powder!!! and really heavy foundations like Estee Lauder and mac studio tech can be very heavy and tend to melt away if you get in anyway hot...and that can be a huge problem in winter as well as summer!!!

i think mac fix fluid is really good...go into BT and get them to find your colour and it apply it for you so you can see if you like it!!! :D

also find a really good moisturiser...use a day and night one...your skin will thank you for it!!!

I find mineral make up brilliant. Like the OP my face becomes blotchy when I wear a liquid foundation, I have tried all brands. I use a good cleanser and moisturiser, but the liquid foundation never looked right after a few hours. The mineral make up comes in a pressed compact or loose and is applied with a kabubi brush. I would recommend this to anyone.
As another poster stated, the right shade is very important too!

thanks for the replies, i bought a primer today and will try that for a while and see how i get on.....the strangest part is if im on a night out my make up is fine...no blotches ( and i dont drink so it's not beer goggle vision i have then)

I did use a foundation brush but i didnt like it, i usually use the latex sponges, i feel they give me a more dewy look even if they do absorb the foundation.

I also got a maybelline foundation today, it has a much more watery consistancy, i find the rimmel and isadora ones are quite thick and almost gloopy!

I know i'm not exactly answering your question OP but i've had a couple of Isadora foundations and always have the same blotchy problem with them, but never with others brands, so maybe steer clear of their foundations?
