Hmm, other than Left 4 Dead 2 none of those games would be in my top 5 of the year although Uncharted 2 would be scrapping the bottom of my list. The winner is no Demons Souls. If I was there I would have done a Kanye

Stop it! Asked for Uncharted for Christmas but heard about Demon's Soul after, would much prefer that but really won't be able to afford it for a good while >_< Don't want to be reminded every thread.

Well you won't be disappointed with Uncharted 2, it'sjust that demons souls really is something very special.

In fairness I haven't played Demon Souls and I know It's for and acquired taste which I probably have but to say that Uncharted 2 is scrapping the bottom of your top 5? You must have been playing some pretty awesome games that I never did.

My top 5 I put into Eurogamer:

1. Persona 4
2. Demons Souls
3. Street Fighter 4
4. New Super Mario Bros Wii
5. Left 4 Dead 2

All games I got far more enjoyment and time out of this year than Uncharted 2. I might change my mind and put Demons Souls first. Also Demons Souls definitely isn't niche. It's easy to understand and play.

U2 has been overhyped ever since its release....oh its a good game but not the GOTY in my opinion. Would have been Arkham Asylum or Assasins Creed 2 personally.

Is Demons Souls really as mind boggingly hard as people are saying? it looks cool but I cant be arsed starting a game i have no chance of finishing, or will be pulling my hair out trying to, I had enough of that with the original Ninja Gaiden, once something is frustratingly difficult its hard to find it fun

Demon Souls appeals to a certain genre, Uncharted 2 appeals to everyone. In my mind and about 90% of the masses that gives it more weight that Demon Souls.

It's tough but the thing is you don't mind dying in it. As you keep playing you get a little bit further each time. It's a lot slower pace than ninja gaiden so doesn't depend as much on reaction time, if you die it's very much your own fault and you some how never feel hard done by. You can also summon some co-op help and grind a bit if you are so cack handed you couldn't even beat Ninja Gaiden :P

Anyway it's such a unique experience that it's worth it just to experience it. However if you do get it I gaurantee you'll like it. For an import game it seems to be doing exceptionally well in the eurogamertop 50 readers choice.

Demons Souls would probably appeal to more people if it had the marketing of Uncharted 2 behind it. Way more people have played Uncharted 2 than demons souls especially in ireland where you have to import it.

Well deserved win. By far the most enjoyable experience I had in 2009 playing a game. Though for the sheer technological spectacle, I thought Killzone 2 deserved more of a mention then L4D2

I did beat NG :P , it was just annoyingly and stupidly difficult in places, when something is a chore rather than a challenge to get through it takes the fun away from it imo, but i dont mind challenging games at all, i did laugh at poor Dara O'Briain saying he never got past the Berserker level in Gears on Gameswipe, its not that hard!

Videogamesplus.ca are probably your best bet, or axelmusic.com. I went with VG+ as I prefer them for price and speed of delivery. If you order it on a Monday you'll usually have it by the Thursday or Friday. There is also NCSX.com.

Demons Souls sounds very very good. Something like that should be up there but I suppose something like this is like the pop charts, the good stuff wouldnt really make it number 1.

Because it's versus mode, scavenger mode and survivor mode play like no other FPS and even the co-op mode with it's AI director is totally different from any other game out there.

I don't know if there was much of an improvement over the first one but the first one was pretty goddamn generic! I know they added melee but the first one should of had it. I enjoyed the first one but as for the AI dumb as a bin.

It's like saying Halo is different from every other FPS, it's just not.

I honestly don't know what it is but I seem to disagree with everything you say!

+1 Assassins Creed 2 was the biggest disappointment of the year imo..

You're doing it wrong. The game is crap in single player. It's a whole different experience in multiplayer. Anyone that has given it a decent go in multiplayer wouldn't be calling it generic. There's no multiplayer game like it out there.
