    1. Site waste, i.e plastics/insulation cuttings/general site rubbish.

whats the best way to deal with this? are skips a good idea? between cuttings of insulation, wrapping, it all generates quickly.

    2. while block laying on 60% of the house they have each room swept after finishing block laying in it for the day. so the raft is nice and smooth for insulation boards, , , however, i almost have mountains of concrete on the other 40%. never swept at all. . . am i correct in thinking that Ill have a problem on my hands unless I mention it to the contractor? right now i couldnt just throw down insulation (not smooth)

in relation to the other tread, I have a contractor and contract, hes employing them, I gave him raft/walls/roof.

and for muffler, I was simply asking was it the norm not to work when there is mositure falling from the sky. .. . as i was thinking to myself how did we ever build so many houses in the boom era (dont remember the weather been that good :D)

thanks all for the replies, much appreciated. .

segregate your waste, recycle what you can, glass plastics, timber, etc., the remainder is classed as building waste, usually to landfill via skip. Broken blocks, bricks, stones, lintel cut offs, bits of cills, etc., cam be used as extra fill for soakaways to downpipes. dried mortar/plaster bits, sweep out dust, etc can be used as primary blinding for the driveway.

It depends, what is the height difference going to be between the top of the raft foundation and the finished floor?

no the floor has to be cleaned to the top of the raft to lay insulation.
if theres mortar on there a quick scrape of a sharp spade or scraper will get it off.

thanks guys, fished floor will be 7 inches above the raft level as it is, and this will consist of 4 inch insulation and 3 inch screed. . .
in my head, when the raft is pourded and finished smooth before block laying, this would be a waste if the block layers are just going to muck around on it. ..

on a happier note, i rang my contractor who is looking after it, and mentioned my concern, and while i said 60% was fine and swept clean, i let him know i didnt want the insulating boards rocking like a ship when i put them in, and he said dont worry, that was one of the first things mentioned, they will leave the raft as they found it.. .

The term raft used in building usually refers to a raft foundation, not a floor slab as evidently is the case here if you only have 175mm between the top of it and the finished floor. Don't forget the reinforcement in the screed.
