Do most Tv series use real people with makeup for dead bodies? what about body pieces etc. Reckon any of it is done by computer?

Like you know when they pick up a hand or an arm that's been chopped off.

The possible use a mold rather than CGI. It would be very hard for an actor to pick up a imaginary body part. They have FX guys working on body parts, they possibly use the same ones over and over again.

To show someones legs/hands/arms/feet/head chopped off they possibly used CGI or a chroma key glove/sock/mask, e.g. Gary Sinise's legs in Forest Gump; but also when laid out on a table it is very easy to get the actor to place one foot down into a hole on the table and have make-up place a wound on the bend of the knee.

Of course when the head is decapitated they possible just use a model of the actor and a made up head.

Very rarely do television shows use CGI for dead bodies. They use fake bodies.

i would have thought for intact bodies they'd just use real actors no?

Yeah they use real actors as long as they are not decapitated.

that entirely depends on the budget of the movie/tv show if the bodies are real actors, it also depends on how the bodies are, for example...underwater,burnt etc...
but you will notice in alot of tv series that intact bodies move just a little, like eyes slightly twitching or someone in the backgrounds chest moving slightly...just small mistakes that go unoticed.
as for body parts they just use molded parts and make up, CG is very very expensive and mostly only big budget movies will use realistic looking CG that actors interact with (eg: xmen:wolverine, one of the characters runs into a scene with two pistols that are in fact not real but CG as he flicks them a certain way that would be near impossible in real life.)
so it really depends on the situation for prostetics and make up to be used or CG, and sometimes a blend of both is used to good effect.
