Line week being introduced

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum mods.
Basically a friend of mine, in the place she works told her that from January, they plan to introduce a new wages system, but in order to implement it, they are required to work a line week.
They are to work a week without pay which will be given back should they ever terminate employment.
She's been employed by the business for over five years.
Needless to say none are happy about it, given the current climate.
How can this be even legal??

Do you mean a lying week?

Your friend would need to check her employment contract to see if there is any reference to method of payment, dates and so on.

May not be up to speed with all current HR issues, but do not understand how any employer could enforce this.
