Are you allergic to bundled software?

I notice a lot of people on this board are using alternatives to the bundled apple apps where any reasonable option is available.

Is this because the alternative software is generally better? Or is it a hangover from your windows days, where the first thing the majority of people on a fresh install is replace internet explorer?

In particular (but not exclusively) I am curious to see how many people seem to be switching from Firefox to Chrome, and singing Chromes praises, which apart from a different UI, and different (but similar performace-wise) javascript engine, is not unlike chrome. I would argue that if you much prefer chrome to firefox, then you should prefer safari to firefox too.

Openoffice is free and as good as pages or office

I installed firefox but also have chrome, opera and camino.

Otherwise I use pretty much what came with the laptop.

Except when there is no app installed like audacity, vlc xpad and the likes.

Are that many Firefox users really switching to Chrome though? They are probably just giving it a test drive. I suspect most of them are married to Firefox for no other reason than they can't live without the add-ons and extensions. It's a bloated piece of crap imo. The add-ons can provide some nice functionality but I just don't consider it a proper Mac app.

I have kinda switched to Chrome though - but from Safari. I never really liked Safari tbh. It had a very bumpy start which I've never forgiven it for. And I hate the interface. I greatly prefer it to Firefox but I can understand why many are drawn to the latter.

The rest of the bundled Mac apps are great imo.

Chrome has no real advantage to me on my mac.

I love ff but on my mac its safari and then either ff or chrome depending on what needs to be done.

FireFox has better plugins but I prefer Safari. I haven't installed Chrome but do have Camino, OmniWeb and Opera installed.
