This may sound brusque, and if it does, I apologise, but you can't hunt anything in Ireland with a bow, at all. It's for targets only.

I think lucy meant there was no licence for archery and an 18s age limit in archery (correct on the former, incorrect on the latter, though a few shops might not sell archery kit to under-18s).

Was thinking that after i posted alright. Although when i was twelve i made a bow and used to buy arrows from the man in the local rod and gun shop in Tullamore with no hassle. Not there anymore though

What i was actually told was that a man went in one day, armed, told him to sit down dont move and the man loaded up on guns and ammo.
The place is across the road from the cop shop:eek:.
Dont know how true that is. I would have thought id remember that happening but i dont so thats why im a bit skeptical about it. The fella who told me though is not the type to lie though.

I tried hunting with a crossbow when I was 16, did'nt work out, arrows/bolts are really dangerous, they come back down to earth a fair distance away, often never to be found again, the bolts used to slide off some things on impact and believe it or not the odd time came back at me!

Plus I'd image a rabbit stuck with an arrow would be a pretty scarry kill for a young lad, any ways, hunting with arrows in Ireland is not legal and could land you in a lot of trouble.

If you live in the countryside and you want to try out hunting, why not make contact with your local game club, (NARGC) and ask the old lads to take you under the wing and teach you how to hunt, of course get your parents ok for this.

    All the best,

    HJ:)
