increased speed after complaining

I`m with 3 broadband.6 months ago my signal got terrible so i decided to cancel and try vodafone.I contacted them but was told i could not cancel untill monday which was fine,but the next day the connection speed was faster than ever before and it stayed pretty good for months ,so i never cancelled.The same thing happened…

I`m with 3 broadband.6 months ago my signal got terrible so i decided to cancel and try vodafone.I contacted them but was told i could not cancel untill monday which was fine,but the next day the connection speed was faster than ever before and it stayed pretty good for months ,so i never cancelled.The same thing happened last week(very poor speeds),I rang to cancel and i was told to ring back the next day,but my speed was brilliant again the next day.
What is going on?Can speeds be turned up and down?Are they doing a virus scan on their system?is it coincidence that every time i threaten to cancel my speeds get better?
I am on the outskirts of their coveredge signal
