Hi. A friend of mine is looking for some advice
on decoying Widgeon. Is there a best time for
it? How do you identify a good location?
    Any ideas appreciated.

all depends where your living where i am theres good flood water
if ya want to no if theres duck on it just go look or go at night and bring a lamp yal see them get up
dont bring a gun though its illegal to lamp them
as for decoying i just throw them out and hope for the best and give a blow on the caller

try different decoy patterns. try C U or J formations . Also make sure you have a space between your decoys called a landing zone for the ducks to land in. Ducks will not fly over decoys to land
Always be prepared to change your approach if birds are flying into decoys and getting spooked .
