Toyota Avensis Strata (2007)

Have bought one recently and I am very happy with it.
However in another Thread, it was brought to my attention that Strata Spec adds: Rear Electric Windows, Alloys and Front Fogs.
I have the first two but no fogs?

Is it likely that the original owner wanted Strata Spec without the fogs? Or Should I be questioning have they been removed afterwards?

Any help would be much appreciated, Particularly to Colm_cm if hes about, he seems to know his stuff on this model.

And any other features of this car that some of you could bring to my attention. Owners Manual wasn't included but I've contacted Toyota about getting one.

PM me the reg number please.

do you have the switch for the front fogs on the indicator stalk? ie. 3 positions (off - front fogs on - front and rear fogs on) or does it have 2 positions (off - rear fog on)

My initial suspicion is that the front bumper has been replaced. No 1.6 Avensis came with rear electric windows and no front fog lights.

    It is a 1.6 right?

Re: additional features. The stereo has a few nice functions that aren't immediately apparent.

Any Strata models I have seen always had front fog lights.

Is it possible the car was in an accident had the front bumper replaced and the owner didn't bother getting the fog lights replaced? Is the switch for them on the dash or stalk?

He might want the reg for a more in-depth look at the car to answer your spec question. The car check sites won't tell you about spec options, and they wont tell you if the car has been damaged, only if it's been written off.

If it comes up as a Strata then the only explanation is that the bumper has been replaced. It's ironic that you were looking at buying a crashed Avensis a month ago, It also seemed you didn't want to pay too much for your car. Perhaps you've done both?

My worry is that anyone who doesn't even replace the foglights has cut corners on the repair.

Feel free to PM me any details re: price paid and where you bought it.

Thanks Colm_McM for your concern, its much appreciated, great to have an outlet like Boards to discuss these kind of issues / concerns.

My father at the time, was considering a Damaged Repairable with little damage, but then decided to up the kitty a bit and not bother with the hassle, we knew there was plenty of Avensis on the road so shouldn't have any bother getting one reasonably priced. And we're satisfied with what we have got.
He's now the third owner and History Check confirmed Mileage / VIC / Chassis no. is all ligit. Studied the body work around the bumper and there is no sign of "inconsistancies" or patchy paint work. Gonna' take a look at it in the workshop tomorrow under the lift.
Under the bonnet layout seems corect and no sign of Major Crash Damage to it at all, everything is alined correctly as should be.
He reckons the Bumper may have been replaced due to a minor tip which may have destroyed paintwork and the fogs was never bothered with. The wiring is in place for them so we may just replace that during the week.
I'll keep posted on how we get on.

unusual alright. it's actually hard enough to damage the fogs in even a light accident. there may be a genuine reason though. fogs may have been removed and fitted to the owners new car for example.

the Avensis has the chassis number on a sticker on the bonnet and on both wings that will be visible when the bonnet is up. If these parts have been replaced the stickers will be missing. check that the bolts holding on the wings are new looking and aren't even slightly rounded. check the gaps on the bonnet are the same size. panel gaps on the bonnet from the factory are exactly the same, treat any differences with suspicion. Check if the plastic clips holding on the slam panel in the middle have been removed or are broken.

Its from the stickers I obtained the Chassis numbers, so they havn't been removed, or replaced. Is there anywhere else on the car the chassis no. can be found? Got the one from the Doors / Under Bonnet Wings / License Cert and they all match up and correspond with the online chassis number too.
As I said, will check tomorrow and see if their is any component which may cause suspicision but as of yet it is only the fogs being missing. Still has Original Plates (Plates Holes aswel) so plates havn't been tampered with. Also contains all dealer stickers / number plate outlines etc.

The reason I highligted the chassis stickers was to make sure replacement panels weren't fitted to the car. the chassis number is also on the windscreen on the passenger side.

PM me if your investigations don't go anywhere.

There's also a thing called ASL that varies the volume depending on how fast you're going. there's 3 settings on it, best to set it to medium. you can do this by continuously pressing the right hand side knob on the stereo, it scrolls through bass/treble/balance/fader then comes to ASL. change the setting by rotating the knob till it goes to medium. default setting is low. Works more effectively on medium. is too sensitive on high.
