Recommend a machine under 300 for long coffees?

Our delonghi high end model is dead and need a new machine.
Wife uses it mostly for a long black coffee .
Most machines seem to do expressos but don't have room for a big cup under them.
Prefer to let the water run through the machine then do an expresso and add boiling water after.

    Any recommendations?

Dare I say, what you want for a long black coffee is

    (a) a nice grinder
    (b) some sort of filter brewer, eg chemex, v60, french press, vacpot etc.

Will be light years tastier than any diluted espresso. You could even get an auto drip, like a Technivorm if you are very anti-work.

i would totally agree with what REACTOR said above.

If you can mentally get past the need for a bells & whistles espresso machine, invest in a decent grinder (there's lots of advice here), buy a coffee subscription (lots of recommendations here) and chose a filter-type brewer that suits your needs - bear in mind that some require a geekier commitment than others.

you'll then be miles ahead of the Jones' from a quality perspective and all of life's problems will seem a mere trifle.

redman - I can lend you my hario v60 1 cup dripper to keep you going in the meantime.

this model that waraf was selling could be similar to your old one: http://www.adverts.ie/showproduct.php?product=165661&cat=all
