Anyone else experiencing problems with Channel 4? Picture and sound is stuttering and the "You have not subscribed to this channel" message appears. Happens every 5 minutes or so. Nothing on the Customer Support section of their website. Have a Digital box (not DVR or HD) and basid in Sandyford.

    Cheers

Yes same problem since Tuesday of this week - picture freezing but I am not getting the "you have not subscribed message" - older 'big' pace box - reception on analogue is too bad to tell if its only the digital service thats having the issue

E4 on analogue is stuttering for me for the last few days. My tv sounds like Norman Collier at the moment!

    Hi all,

Im getting the stuttering problem on most channels. Picture and sound skips and you would loose a half second on both feeds. Sometimes its a once off skip and you may get one or two like that an hour, othertimes its 10/15 skips a few minutes a part in an hour. Also get periods of no skipping at all to be fair. May have started around the time that we installed the new card that UPC sent out but not certain. I think it may have been doing it a little before the card change. We changed our card a week ago. Dont have DVR function so cant say if that is affected. Did try removing power from box for an hour and reboot but didnt make any difference. We are in Dublin 14 area. Anyone else got this issue and what location are you in?

@Creasey: Your problem sounds like you are getting poor reception (check connections) or there is something wrong with your box.

Cheers Zilog, fair point, I will check all the co-ax connections and see if thats the cause of the problem. We did once get the "You have not subscribed to this channel" message . Changing channel fixed this staright away and it happened with rte2.

I have been having this problem for 12 months  nearly on and off...I have taped programmes on my plus box only when i sit down to watch it it is all freezing no sound and the 1hr programme over in 5mins.. Still has nothing been done... It is on all my C4,E4,Film4 and all the +1 Channels aswel..:mad::mad::mad:

I was getting that for the last 2 months, but on Saturday I got a Digital+HD box installed, and the problem on these channels has disappeared. So If I were to guess, C4,E4,Film4 and all the +1 Channels are still on Nagra 2 and the older boxes are picking up the N2 version of these channels. Just a guess.

Channel 4 freezing constantly on Digital for the last 24 hours - 2 different type boxes in 2 different locations.

UPC need to get this sorted out but no one in CS seems to understand the problem

Me too, in Hampton Square, Navan road (D7), using basic Digital TV (the little grey box). I've had it for at least a month. Had a guy in from UPC/NTL yesterday who replaced lots of cable and connectors, but it's still happening. It's worse in the evenings, and I'm pretty sure it's worse when there's a lot of motion - the 3 second frame freeze (audio continues as normal), occasional signal break-up and of course the 'You have not subscribed to this channel' message.

Channel 4, More 4, E4, Film 4. If there are more than 2 people posting about it here, you can be sure that NTL knows about it but isn't talking.

An update: Just had a technician in to look at the problem with Channel 4, More 4, E4, Film 4 and he told me the following, which should be of interest to everyone:

The problem is apparently at the 'head', which is to say that it happens at source and affects everyone, and isn't just a local hardware problem. Amazingly, they only noticed yesterday, because the on-site technicians asked them to check it at the head, and they verified that this is the case.

They're working on it (well, I've heard that before) and service should return to normal very soon.

I know, it's borderline hearsay, but he seemed to have an understanding of the problem and there wasn't anything further to be done. I'll post again once I can verify that the issue has been resolved. Hope that helps someone.

Yeah I'm getting that green line thing on E4 and occasional breaking up on E4 and E4+1, haven't noticed much on the other channels.

Yeah, the green line was a recent development, and there seems to be slightly less freezing and break-up. UTV can be pretty bad too, sometimes.

Is anyone else still experiencing this green line problem thats visable on UPC digital too? It seems to only be happening with channel 4, E4 & more4, possibly the +1's. Its quite annoying.

This has been happening with the E4 channels constantly since I've had UPC installed. Its unwatchable as every few seconds the sound drops out or a line appears through the video. Is this actually a problem at UPC's end? Since it seems to be a problem for quite a few people I imagine it must be? Any explanations?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,267 ✭✭✭kc66

I have been trying to find a reason for this for a while. Nothing to do with UPC I think, as I have sky. Its been happening for years. The sound stops for a fraction of a second and a green line appears randomly on the screen. It even happened after I got a new installation, new dish, box and cables. E4 is the only channel I've seen it on.

No problems here in Templeogue, Dublin. I watch Channel 4 news most nights. Just checked E4 and seems to be fine.
