Locked out of hotmail

    Hi All

I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this so mods feel free to move it but I have a bit of a problem I need some advice on.

Whats happened is I have a hotmail account that I have been using since I Started college about 7 years ago. I have been using it for all personal stuff.

When I set it up I was a frankly an IDIOT. I wanted to have and address that read hotmail.com and not hotmail.co.uk as that was what I remember being the only available alternative at the time for Irish residents so I set it up providing my information as an american from god knows what state.

Then when I was asked to provide an alternative email address I gave my college assigned email as it was the only other one I had at the time.

Anyway after that I went on my way and enjoyed 7 years of happy emailing until Tuesday. I went to enter my password and forgot to capitalise the first letter so it came up incorrect. thats happened before and I usually cop it and enter it correctly the second time. This time however I am told that due to the password being entered incorrectly a number of times the password has been locked and needs to be reset.

I didn't even remember about me saying that I was american when I set it up till yesterday and entered in my normal details and security question. It came back and I kept entering it changing things around like cap in name of home county to the county I went to college in. The email to my alternative address didn't come through either as I left college 3 years ago and the account was closed down when I graduated.

I have different accounts that are linked to that email and all my messenger contacts are linked into it so I really don't want to lose it.

Does anyone have any Ideas how I could get around this. Is there a section in microsoft I could contact or some way in to the account that I don't know about. I can't get into it from my iPhone as usual as I had hoped I would.

OP did you not back up your account or at least have some way of contacting people you know to forward you old emails, archive data etc that you lost?

Perhaps you should switch to gmail-free end to end encryption 256 AES and anti virus scanning by Sophos. You can even back up data online free with Google documents.

the emails that I am looking for are from websites and companies. user log on's and account details for the likes of rapidshare. I don't have these backed up.

Thanks for that but you don't happen to know how I can access the information in the hotmail account. Is there any way around the lock out thats on it at the minute.

Just a small chance, but some Irish people have their accounts set to Florida ZIP 33332 because of this.

    So give it a go

Also, what happens when you go to http://members.msn.com/youremailadress@hotmail.com ? It should have a profile page for you there any may have your 'location' with it. You may need to sign in to msn to do it so get a friend to do it or send me a PM with your hotmail email and I'll do it from this end.
