I placed this over on instruments section but something tells me it might be better off here:

Home (portable) studio for use with mbox 2.

    Looking for 6-10 inputs
    Phantom Power
    Fairly compact
Decent preamps (majority recording is vocals, acoustics and piano)

    Any thoughts?

i think you've outgrown your 2in2out mbox, if you use a mixer it will be submixed before it gets into protools, so you wont be able to use the multi tracking features, you probably would be better off looking for a second hand digi002 or digi001(check that this is still supported), also, mackie have hacked their firewire driver so you can run protools mpowered on their firewire onyx mixers, not ideal as you probably run protools le not mpowered.

Another option would be to buy a focusrite twintrak with the digital card, this would allow you to use the spdif input, this will allow you to record 4 single feeds at once to 4 seperate tracks in protools and it has a handy inbuilt compressor and monitor controller, headphone amp. oh and 2 mic pre's with phantom power and variable impedance inputs.

    Hi Seany,

I have a Mackie Onyx 1640 for sale if your interested
    http://www.mackie.com/products/onyx1640/

    am I allowed post that??

But take heed of Quiggers - you'll only get 2 channels back to protools, - L&R.

Quiggers - I didn't hear that about the firewire option, after making their own editor!! have you looked at their Eleven rack yet? seems a nice little amp simulator but it replaces your 001 or 002 as your main interface - seems a bit of a trade off
