    Hi,

My wife and everybody else in the factory she works in were told last week that they are all going to be working less hours.

Last week they only worked 3 days. So we went to the social welfare office and applied for JSB. She got a small card to mark days worked and days not worked.

This week it has been a full week and next week will probably be the same. Then the factory will be closed for 2 weeks. Not sure if she has enough holidays left to cover 2 weeks. Will JSB cover this?

Today, she received a letter saying she won't qualify for JSB as she was only unemployed for 2 days not 3.

But other people in the factory have received more of the cards to mark days worked/not worked. Even though they all received the same letter from company explaining why the factory is closed.

Can someone explain to me how exactly one qualifies for JSB? I thought that if you are working reduced hours then you can claim your stamps/JSB.

And I don't understand why some people got more cards and she was turned down?

I am currently at full time education as I was made redundant in May. I don't qualify for Back to education allowance as I already hold a degree and don't qualify for a grant as I earned too much money last year. It really seems that after working hard and paying PRSI and tax that we are entitled to no help!!!

Sorry for long post but am starting to get depressed at the little help we are receiving. Please help.

    Regards,

    WM
