Hi all, have decided on a micra for my first car. I want the new model but some (2003ish) are arounf 5/6k on carzone. I saw one or two on donedeal for under 3k - does this sound too good to be true?

The downside is that the new shape Micra isn't reliable enough to justify its oddball looks. A Clio or Yaris would be a much better option.

Yeah, you'll get that here. Renault could rebadge an Avensis and you'd be told it was an unreliable heap of ****.:)

That's because the badge they put on would come off and fly into the engine causing numerous electrical faults.

The Clio isn't a bad car though. Not much space in the back seats.

1st one mentions "no damage", I'd asume it was an insurance right off and repaired.
2nd one has a tax expiry date of Oct 2003, wouldn't touch it.

I tought the no damage was just their way of saying it has been looked after and not crashed...
Cant see tax on the other - how do you see it???

Your assuming a lot there... it may not have ever been damaged.

Mywheels is good but not always correct, the second car is an 03, so highly unlikely that the tax ran out then.

OP if your going to look at those cars, bring a mechanic or someone who knows what they are looking at.

IMO when buying a used car 'no damage', 'genuine mileage' and 'very good condition' spell disaster.

I would have left it at the 80k with two lady owners tbh

Thanks for the replies. I think I should buy through a dealer- it's safer right? I don't know any mechanics or anyone who knows anything about cars tbh

if you decide to buy one, take it for the test drive and pay attention how it shifts into lower gears 2nd, 1st when slowing down. I've read somewhere that they're fitting some cheap gearboxes into them.
I used to have micra, it was year 05 with 22k miles on it, and you had to force it to go into 2nd gear when downshifting, and to select first you had to stop completely & re-engage the clutch otherwise you'd be nearly breaking your arm pushing that gearstick. ok, maybe it wasn't that tragic but I got really bored fighting those gears and did a trade in last June :)
Good luck with your search, and I would recommend micra, I absolutely loved it, it's very spacious inside and easy to drive (I learned to drive and passed my test in 5weeks) and has that funny bubbly look ;)

and 5/6k for 03 ouch that's sound pricey! my 05 model then in june was going for just below 5k eur

Some modern Renaults tend to throw up problems with complex electrical problems and various results of over engineering used with the cheapest components.
Happily the more basic Renaults like the Twingo, Kangoo and old model Clio are exceptions.

The 1.2 engine is nippy, interior is nice and it actually handles. Reliability wise there's not much going against it. The great thing is nobody knows this - this is reflected in the low prices.
